Collage + Commentary

For this project, I used traditional techniques and media to create two distinct analogue collages that comment on a current political, social, economic or environmental concern. I decided to comment on 2 separate issues. The first was violence against women in society, and the second was the effect pollution has on the environment.
For this collage, I wanted to focus on the violence against women across the world. I incorporated a couple of women that were victims of this such as Elianne Andam (left), Mahsa Amini (second to left), Marsha P. Johnson (above), and Junko Furuta (right). I wanted to show the rage as well as the bloodshed these women (and many others) have faced. The use of only using red was to set the mood as well as avoid any distractions. The collage was meant to show the true realities of many people out there that don't get the justice they deserve, especially from people who were supposed to be protecting them.
For this collage, I wanted to showcase the affect climate change and pollution has on the environment. The main characteristic of this collage that ties it together is a quote I used by Mark Twain. "Man is the only creature that kills in malice". I think this quote was very fitting for the situation considering that the human race contributed IMMENSELY to the decline of endangered species.
